Beaumont Legal Recruitment is working with a leading Scottish law firm to recruit a Senior Solicitor or Associate for one of Scotland's largest and most experienced employment law teams.

This opportunity offers significant Employment Tribunal litigation and advocacy experience from the outset. You will act for an impressive client base that includes government departments and agencies, major public-sector organisations, multinational businesses and owner-managed companies.

The team also represents individual employees in Employment Tribunal proceedings and advises on settlement agreements.

The opportunity

You will join a large, supportive team containing several Law Society of Scotland-accredited employment law specialists.

The position offers structured supervision and specialist advocacy development, including access to dedicated training focused on proceedings before the Employment Tribunal and Employment Appeal Tribunal.

For a solicitor who enjoys contentious employment work, this is an excellent opportunity to develop substantial hands-on advocacy experience while maintaining exposure to advisory and non-contentious matters.

The role

Your responsibilities will include:
  • Advising employers on day-to-day employment law and HR matters
  • Defending significant Employment Tribunal claims for public and private-sector clients
  • Acting for individual employees in tribunal proceedings and settlement negotiations
  • Drafting ET1 and ET3 forms, pleadings and associated tribunal correspondence
  • Taking instructions from witnesses and preparing witness statements
  • Conducting legal and factual research
  • Undertaking advocacy before Employment Tribunals
  • Developing experience of Employment Appeal Tribunal proceedings
  • Drafting employment contracts, staff handbooks, policies and procedures
  • Advising on the resolution of workplace disputes, including mediation
  • Supporting corporate colleagues with TUPE matters, warranties and indemnities arising from business sales and transfers
  • Helping to prepare and deliver client presentations and training workshops
  • Participating in the team's wider business-development activities
About you

You will be a qualified solicitor with at least three years' PQE and experience handling Employment Tribunal matters.

The successful candidate will also demonstrate:
  • A strong interest in contentious employment law and advocacy
  • Experience preparing and managing Employment Tribunal claims
  • Excellent drafting, communication and organisational skills
  • Strong client-care skills and commercial awareness
  • The confidence to manage a varied caseload
  • The ability to work independently and collaboratively
  • A practical and proactive approach to resolving disputes
  • An interest in developing client relationships and contributing to business development
Previous advocacy experience would be advantageous. Applications are also welcomed from candidates with strong Employment Tribunal preparation experience who are keen to undertake more advocacy with appropriate supervision and support.

What's on offer
  • A salary in the region of £55,000-£69,000, dependent on experience
  • High-profile and significant Employment Tribunal litigation
  • Hands-on advocacy opportunities from an early stage
  • Exposure to an outstanding public and private-sector client base
  • Structured supervision from accredited employment law specialists
  • Dedicated Employment Tribunal and Employment Appeal Tribunal advocacy training
  • A broad practice combining contentious, advisory and transactional support work
  • A friendly, experienced and supportive team
  • Excellent professional-development and career-progression opportunities
This position would suit an ambitious employment solicitor looking to build a recognised specialism in litigation and advocacy while working within one of Scotland's most established employment practices.
