This opportunity offers significant Employment Tribunal litigation and advocacy experience from the outset. You will act for an impressive client base that includes government departments and agencies, major public-sector organisations, multinational businesses and owner-managed companies.
The team also represents individual employees in Employment Tribunal proceedings and advises on settlement agreements.
The opportunity
You will join a large, supportive team containing several Law Society of Scotland-accredited employment law specialists.
The position offers structured supervision and specialist advocacy development, including access to dedicated training focused on proceedings before the Employment Tribunal and Employment Appeal Tribunal.
For a solicitor who enjoys contentious employment work, this is an excellent opportunity to develop substantial hands-on advocacy experience while maintaining exposure to advisory and non-contentious matters.
The role
Your responsibilities will include:
- Advising employers on day-to-day employment law and HR matters
- Defending significant Employment Tribunal claims for public and private-sector clients
- Acting for individual employees in tribunal proceedings and settlement negotiations
- Drafting ET1 and ET3 forms, pleadings and associated tribunal correspondence
- Taking instructions from witnesses and preparing witness statements
- Conducting legal and factual research
- Undertaking advocacy before Employment Tribunals
- Developing experience of Employment Appeal Tribunal proceedings
- Drafting employment contracts, staff handbooks, policies and procedures
- Advising on the resolution of workplace disputes, including mediation
- Supporting corporate colleagues with TUPE matters, warranties and indemnities arising from business sales and transfers
- Helping to prepare and deliver client presentations and training workshops
- Participating in the team's wider business-development activities
You will be a qualified solicitor with at least three years' PQE and experience handling Employment Tribunal matters.
The successful candidate will also demonstrate:
- A strong interest in contentious employment law and advocacy
- Experience preparing and managing Employment Tribunal claims
- Excellent drafting, communication and organisational skills
- Strong client-care skills and commercial awareness
- The confidence to manage a varied caseload
- The ability to work independently and collaboratively
- A practical and proactive approach to resolving disputes
- An interest in developing client relationships and contributing to business development
