You will work with an interesting and diverse client base, from high-growth and owner-managed businesses to public sector organisations and established national employers, providing pragmatic and commercially focused advice across the full spectrum of employment law.
The role offers a varied mix of contentious and non-contentious work, with a particular focus on contentious employment matters and tribunal litigation . It's about:
- Employment disputes - Advising on unfair dismissal, discrimination, whistleblowing, breach of contract and other complex workplace disputes.
- Tribunal litigation - Preparing and defending Employment Tribunal proceedings, representing clients at hearings and participating in judicial mediations.
- Day-to-day advisory work - Providing practical advice on disciplinary and grievance matters, absence management, workplace policies and procedures, and wider employee relations issues.
- Transactional support - Advising on the employment aspects of mergers and acquisitions, due diligence exercises and TUPE matters.
- Contracts and agreements - Drafting and reviewing employment contracts, consultancy and service agreements and Non-Executive Director appointments.
- Restructuring and workforce change - Advising on restructures, redundancies, settlement agreements and negotiated exits, balancing legal considerations with clients' commercial objectives.
- Business protection - Working alongside dispute resolution colleagues on restrictive covenants, post-termination obligations and related disputes.
- Client relationships - Building trusted relationships and becoming a valued adviser who understands clients, their businesses and the commercial challenges they face.
- Training and thought leadership - Delivering client training and webinars and contributing to articles, legal updates and other employment law content.
- Collaboration - Working closely with colleagues across different practice areas to provide clients with joined-up, commercially focused legal solutions.
Our client is seeking an Employment Lawyer with established experience in employment law, ideally operating at Associate level , although applications from lawyers at other levels with the right experience are welcomed.
Ideally you will bring:
- Experience across contentious and non-contentious employment matters, with a strong interest in contentious work.
- Strong technical knowledge of employment and discrimination law.
- Experience of Employment Tribunal litigation and advocacy support.
- Some exposure to transactional employment work, including M&A and TUPE, would be advantageous.
- Excellent drafting, negotiation and communication skills.
- A practical, commercial and solutions-focused approach.
- The confidence to manage your own matters and develop strong relationships with clients.
- The ability to manage a varied workload while working effectively both independently and as part of a team.
